“CAPI 1.0” is a solo exhibition by Los Angeles artist Cait Finley comprised of sculpture and photography in which the artist explores capitalism as a childlike entity. Capitalism is chimeric; she is large, and difficult to see from inside the sphere of her influence. The works in this show explore her form, outlining a body through relationships to our literal and metaphorical ecosystem. If considered as a physical being, what type of being is she? What other beings does she birth by her mere presence? Consume? In contemplating these questions, Finley gestures toward a concept of a Dark New Wild: an environment in which natural and synthetic organisms are equivalent and dependent upon one other, for better or worse. Part playful sci-fi fantasy, part fatalistic social critique, “CAPI 1.0” is––above all else––an elusive but perhaps knowable kin.
