Concrete = Canvas was a project series with the goal of converting a run-down and squatted factory in central Buenos Aires into an artistic landscape in an effort to progress the educational, social, and aesthetic structures within the community. Collaborating with local muralists, circus performers, musicians, urban gardeners, city officials, a host of volunteers, and residents of the former CELSA textile factory, we staged several week-long clean-up and block party style events filled with collaborative activities. The grounding philosophy of the project was that through commissioning local artists to develop and execute public works of art, workshops, and events within their own communities, a window can be opened for creativity, social dialogue, and community exchange, and thus instill an ethos of activism and engagement across all social classes.
